Peel Association for Handicapped Adults

About PAHA

Peel Association for Handicapped Adults (PAHA) was founded in 1973 and Incorporated as a non-profit registered charitable organization on June 7, 1976.

Our mission is to provide, facilitate and coordinate recreational, social and cultural activities for individuals, within the region of Peel, who have a disability as a result of physical, mental or sensory impairment. These activities are designed to support, challenge and enhance the social, emotional and physical well being of our members.

On a weekly basis, members are encouraged to utilize their creative, artistic and intellectual potential in various arts, crafts and table games. Weekly bowling and swim programs address both the physiological effects of exercise along with the psychological benefits of team participation. Throughout the year our activities include parties, picnics, dinners and outings to community events.

Our membership is open to all adults, 18 years of age and over. PAHA promotes and encourages people with and without disabilities to come together on equal terms, to achieve complete inclusion and participation in all aspects of the wider community. Our members are involved in committees with various agencies, advocating for the disabled to improve lives, protect rights and effect positive change.

Peel Association for Handicapped Adults is run solely by volunteers. It is supported by membership fees and donations from individuals, service clubs and corporations. Our annual fundraising events include a Bowl-a-thon. All monies collected go directly to fund and support our program and its members. In an effort to break down prevalent economic barriers, we try to defray various expenditures related to transportation and event costs.

Peel Association for Handicapped Adults acknowledges the ever present and demanding needs of people living with disabilities. We strive to advocate for individuals who experience barriers to participation in leisure and recreational pursuits, enabling them to maintain a positive and fulfilling quality of life.
